The first goal is to foster our students’ participation in learning conversations. Any discussion that diminishes these learning conversations or promotes a threatening atmosphere which makes members fear to contribute will not be tolerated. Participation in the Boston Latin School Forum requires that good netiquette (network etiquette) rules be followed. These rules are: 1. Be respectful of all forum participants. Practice polite, constructive disagreement at all times. Flaming, abusive or personal attacks on other members will not be tolerated. 2. Keep your discussion concise and on-topic. Do not start a new discussion under an old topic. The subject/topic line should closely resemble the ensuing discussion. 3. Sign all your messages with your full name. 4. Use appropriate language. Any message that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, that may be invasive of another's privacy, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable will not be tolerated. 5. Never discuss a student’s personal or academic situation online, even if he or she is your child. Our students’ privacy is assured. 6. Do not post or transmit any unsolicited advertising, promotional materials, "junk mail," "spam," "chain letters," "pyramid schemes," or any other form of solicitation in the BLS Forum. To seek redress, assistance or explanation for any situation regarding your child’s social or academic standing at BLS, follow the academic chain of command. Always speak to the teacher involved FIRST. Next, address questions or concerns to the Floormaster, Guidance Counselor or Program Director, as appropriate in the situation. Next, speak to an Assistant Head Master or Head of Guidance. Finally, address unresolved questions or concerns to the Head Master. Academic or social concerns should NEVER be addressed in the BLS forum. Remember, you are personally responsible for all of your online statements. If you defame someone online or invade his or her privacy, you may be sued. Exercise your freedom to speak out, but please do so responsibly and in a way that reflects credibly on the school. Boston Latin School (BLS) and its designees shall have the right in their sole discretion to edit, refuse to post, or remove any content posted on the BLS Forums. Without limiting the foregoing, BLS and its designees shall have the right to remove any content that is in violation of the provisions hereof or otherwise objectionable. You agree to indemnify and hold BLS harmless from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of your violation of these terms and conditions or your violation of any rights of another.
